  • Whew!

Wow, the past two weeks have been a blur.  I can't believe my baby girl is 2 weeks and 3 days old.  Wow.  It's scary to me how fast she's growing and how fast the time is going.  I know that it's just a hint of what is to come and that frightens me!

So, what's been happening?  Well, we've survived a few freak outs - a nasty eye discharge and a soft spot that seemed to have grown over night.  No worries, though, it seems like everything is fine.

Aubrey is doing great.  She is still sleeping a lot, but is having longer stints that she is awake (mostly during the day, which is good news!).  She's rarely fussy and, overall, is a pretty happy baby.  She loves to be held and sometimes refuses to be put back in her bed at night because she'd rahter fall asleep while someone is holding her.  We are trying to break the habit of having her sleep while being held, but you know, it's not easy to do.

We can't believe how much she has grown!  Her little face is starting to get chubby (though her legs are still terribly scrawny!  haha!).  Her preemie clothes are getting small on her.  She's eating like crazy!

It's hard to believe that she should still be inside my stomach for another few days - 3 more days, to be exact.  But instead she's over 2 weeks old!  Yikes.  I can't imagine my life without her.  She's turned out world upside down and Steve and I couldn't be more thrilled about it.  She's amazing and we love being her parents.

  • Introducing Aubrey Jo!

Well, she's finally here - after 37 weeks and 1 day of anticipation, little miss Aubrey Jo Cox arrived at 10:06 am, weighing 5 pounds, 4 ounces and 17 inches long.  She's so tiny!

The c-section went great.  Steve sat right beside me the whole time, keeping me calm.  When they pulled her out, they showed her to us quickly and then rushed her away to be cleaned, weighed, and all the other fun stuff they do.  She didn't cry right away, which made me so nervous, but soon, we could hear her tiny wail!  Steve got to hold her and brought her over for me to see while the drs. finished up.  I thought she was adorable from the moment I saw her!

After everything was finished, I had an emergency toe ring-ectomy.  Apparently, one of the nurses saw my toe ring and asked how long I had had it.  I told her probably about 9 years or so.  Everyone in the room freaked out.  The dr. quickly got some plier things and pulled it off.  They were quite concerned, but I am happy to report that everything seems to be okay.

After all that excitement, I was wheeled back to my room where I had to wait 2 hours before I could see my little girl.  She had lost some blood in the surgery (because of the placenta issues - I had as well), so she needed to be warmed up a bit.  During  that time, I was going crazy not being able to see my baby, so Steve kept going back and forth from the room to the nursery window, taking pictures and showing me what she looked like.

They finally brought her in and I got to hold her.  She was (and is!) adorable!  I couldn't believe how tiny she was.

The rest of the day was spent with the baby, showing her off to friends and family, and snuggling with her.  That's pretty much how the remainder of the hospital stay went.

Thursday we got to go home.  Before we did, though, Steve and I got to have our "stork meal."  It was adorable.  We got to order from a special menu and the hospital staff brought up a special table with a table cloth and cloth napkins.  They took our little Bug to the nursery and we got to have a nice meal before we headed home.  We spent most of the meal laughing (which didn't feel great on the c-section incision!).  It was a wonderful memory to have made.  Then we loaded up our little one and headed home to start our adventure!  It's been quite a ride so far!

  • The Nursery

Well, I think our nursery is FINALLY finished.  I think I've blogged before that we went with a Dr. Seuss theme, because on our first date, Steve read me Horton Hears a Who.  It's always been a special thing for us.

Here's some pictures.  Oh, and right above her crib, we painted the letters of her name and have hung them by white ribbon.  It is SO cute, but obviously, we can't show that until she arrives!  I'll post another picture of that later!
